Rome is one of those cities where it is difficult to walk very far without coming across something beautiful or impossibly old. Ancient ruins sit alongside busy streets, fountains appear around unexpected corners, and grand buildings seem to blend into everyday life. This was also my first trip using a film camera, and somehow Rome felt like the perfect place to begin. There was something about slowing down, waiting for the right moment, and knowing I had only a limited number of frames that made me see the city a little differently. The photographs have a softness and nostalgia that I love, and looking back at them now, they remind me not only of Rome but of the experience of photographing it.
