Sarajevo is a beautiful city surrounded by green, rolling hills, with a mix of old Ottoman buildings, Austro-Hungarian architecture, mosques, churches, and busy cafés. Walking through Baščaršija, the old town, I loved the narrow streets, small shops filled with copperware, and the sound of people gathering over coffee. There is something especially interesting about the way the old and new come together here. One minute you are walking past a centuries-old mosque or a small bakery, and the next you are surrounded by colorful shops and cafés filled with locals. Sarajevo also has a much heavier side, and reminders of the war are still visible throughout the city. Even so, there is a warmth and energy to Sarajevo that stayed with me. I spent much of my time simply wandering, stopping for coffee, taking in the views, and watching daily life unfold around me. Below is a collection of photos from Sarajevo and beyond.
